A houseboat holiday will be one of the best holidays you will ever experience. As you are in total control of the boat you will need to have at least 2 people who can tie ropes and operate the boat at the same time. The riverbank can be slippery and steep so you will need to be reasonably agile so as you can move around some of nature’s obstacles. You don’t have to be a marathon runner, just steady on your feet.

You cannot bring certain fruit and vegetables into the Riverland. Do not take fresh, unprocessed fruit or fruiting vegetables (including capsicum, chilli, tomato and eggplant) into the Riverland of South Australia without a plant health certificate. A zero tolerance approach is in place and if caught with non-compliant material at the Yamba Quarantine Station or random roadblock you will be fined. Quarantine stations and fruit disposal bins are strategically placed throughout South Australia. Mobile quarantine stations can operate anywhere and at anytime within South Australia.

Fruit fly like certain (“host”) restricted fruit and vegetables so you cannot bring them into the Riverland. To further protect Riverland growers, the ‘bring a receipt’ rule is no longer recognised. You will be fined if you are caught travelling into the Riverland with restricted fruit and vegetables. These restrictions are ongoing and are not related to any fruit fly outbreak restrictions. The law changed on 29 July 2021.

When planning your trip into the Riverland, plan to stop at a local shop to buy your fresh fruit and vegetables. Fruit and vegetables sold in the Riverland Pest Free Area are fruit fly safe. You can buy these from local Riverland businesses while travelling in the region. Host fruit and vegetables grown or sold outside the Riverland Pest Free Area may not have had the required treatment applied, which is why you cannot bring them into the region yourself. There’s also the risk of travellers introducing other pests to this fruit production area. Some local businesses increased the availability of fresh fruit and vegetables for residents and travellers (current as of December 2021), including:

Morgan

Walker Flat

Swan Reach

Blanchetown.

Dispose of fruit and vegetables at quarantine locations

Our Location & Surrounds

We are located at the Morgan Marina, 57 Oval Road, Morgan.

If travelling from Adelaide direction then we recommend driving through Eudunda, past Mt Mary then into Morgan. The Marina is on the town side or Morgan. This will avoid the dirt road option if you decide to travel via Blanchetown. If travelling from Cadell/Waikerie direction then you will need to cross the ferry.

As one of the key railway towns along the River Murray, Morgan is rich in history. Explore the Morgan Museum and the Historic Wharf area.

For river enthusiasts, Morgan has one of largest stretches of riverfront and is popular for recreation and riversports. See here for more information about Morgan.

Our 5 day/4 night Itinerary ex-Morgan takes you along the enchanting Murray River to see some of our favourite destinations.

Our boats cruise on approximately 6-7klm per hour, a very relaxing speed and giving you the best fuel economy (This is all depending on river flows and the wind conditions). Upstream of course will take longer and same too if there is a strong headwind. We recommend to only travel for around 3-5 hours a day so you can relax enjoy the scenery. Upstream around 20-30klms a day, downstream 25-35klms per day is plenty but entirely up to you. You cannot travel down past Lock 1 due to low and fluctuating water levels. We can discuss your holiday journey before hand with you or on the day when we are showing you the boat. If you are not wanting to travel far then there are many different mooring spots for you to choose from close by. Alternatively, you can stay at the marina. You can plan some off river visits to neighbouring towns or attractions by road as well.
